Ayurveda Therapies and Panchakarma

Back to Roots Ayurveda Clinic by Dr. Shyam is committed to tradition and purity at every step – in principle, practice, and process. Each medicine, oil, and medicinal formulation used in treatment is manufactured in-house after sourcing the ingredients from trusted producers to maintain the clinics’ exacting standards. Following the ritualistic and often meditative quality of the therapeutic practice, treatments are carried out in a calm and unhurried manner, ensuring the patient’s convenience and comfort.

Panchakarma are five treatment approaches to treat the Vikruty or imbalance of Vata, Pitta & Kapha. One should not get confused that Panchakarma is an Ayurveda massage; oil therapies are performed as a pre-treatment to Panchakarma. Ayurvedic Panchakarma treatment targets at the complete cure of a disease. However, panchakarma is not indicated as a treatment approach in mild diseases and in weak patients or in childhood and in elderly; this approach is suggested in the management of severe and chronic ailments. Our Ayurveda doctor in Abu Dhabi shall advise the suitable panchakarma modality after a detailed assessment of the disease. Panchakarma is also recommended in certain climatic seasons with a preventive objective. Practice of performing Vamana in spring season; Virechana in autumn and Vasthy in Rainy is popular in India.

Oil therapies are performed in 2 ways:

The age-old Ayurvedic doctors of Kerala have developed 5 oil therapy techniques which is termed as Keraleeya Panchakarma. Dharakalpa (treatment of drizzling medicated oil / milk / buttermilk on the forehead), Pinda sweda (induce sweating in the patient applying warm herbal poultices), Anna lepanam (massage with a medicated cooked rice paste), Kaya sekam (pouring a rhythmic stream of oils or liquids are on the body) and Siro lepanam (a herbal paste application on scalp) are termed as Keraleeya Panchakarma. These treatments are performed individually and independently from a panchakarma treatment in Abu Dhabi with specific healing objectives.

The 5 types of panchakarma are Vasthy, Virechana, Vamana, Nasya and Raktamoksha:

We suggest our patients to avoid or reduce heavy and oily foods, cold drinks and diet, cold wind, sleeping in day time, over exercise, staying awake during night-time etc during a panchakarma treatment.

Vasthy:

Vasthy is the best panchakarma treatment for Vata imbalance. In this procedure, in combinations or individually, medicated oils, herbal decoctions, pastes of herbs, rock salt, honey are administered into the body through the anal route. This has to be retained inside for a certain duration; if the medicines comes out quickly, a second dose is also administered. Enema is a wrong English translation of the Sanskrit term – Vasthy. Vasthy means ‘to retain’; this procedure bypass the process of enzyme digestion and active ingredients are absorbed through the colon or rectum. The treatment may be repeated for 8-15 days. Vasthy treatment is done for several Vata imbalanced conditions like Arthritis, low back pain, sciatic pain, neurological diseases, obesity, paralysis. Different forms and types of Vasthy treatment is performed at Back to Roots Ayurveda Centre in Abu Dhabi: 1.Herbal decoctions, 2.Milk boiled with herbs and roots, 3.Concoctions of sharp & alkaline liquids, 4.Medicated oils

Virechana:

In this procedure, certain herbal mixtures in the form of powders or oils are given to the patient in the morning, which results in a controlled diarrhoea for 2-3 hours. Patient shall be advised to replenish with water and liquid foods to avoid dehydration. Light foods are advised for couple of days after this Panchakarma treatment. Virechana is an effective remedy for Pitta imbalanced diseases.

Vamana:

A therapeutic vomiting is induced in this treatment with herbal mixtures. Vamana shows proven results in the treatment of psoriasis, eczema, chronic asthma. Highly effective to manage Kapha imbalance in the body. This is done under supervision of our experienced Ayurveda doctor in Abu Dhabi

Nasya:

Nasya is one among the panchakarma which is the application of a medicated oils in the nostrils. A pre-treatment of oil application is made and steam is applied on the face, neck and shoulders. After the instillation of oils in the nostrils, the patient is asked to inhale it gently and spit out the mucous. Nasya is suggested for the treatment of headaches, Bell’s palsy, respiratory diseases, and for diseases in head and neck region

Rakta moksha:

Rakta Moksha (bloodletting) It is a complex procedure of removing vitiated blood with the aid of leeching or pricking or venesection. The approval of Ayurveda practice of Raktamoksha is not approved by Ministry of Health in UAE. We refer our patients to our Ayurveda healing retreat in Kerala for such procedures. It is an effective remedy in the treatment of skin diseases, varicose vein, joint inflammations
