The term migraine is commonly used to describe any type of severe headache; however, all headaches are not migraines. The symptoms of migraine are diverse; therefore migraine headache may be  misdiagnosed as tension headaches or sinus headaches.

It is associated with symptoms like nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to light and sound and visual problem. The exact cause of migraines is unclear, some studies suggest that factors contribute migraine are genetic, environmental triggers, hormonal changes and lifestyle factors.

One prevailing theory suggests that migraines result from abnormal brain activity, leading to changes in blood flow, neurotransmitter levels, and sensory processing. This theory is supported by the observation of an “aura” experienced by some migraine sufferers, which can manifest as visual disturbances, sensory changes, or speech difficulties preceding the onset of the headache.

Migraine triggers vary widely among individuals but may include hormonal fluctuations, certain foods or food additives, stress, dehydration, sleep disturbances, sensory stimuli, and environmental factors such as weather changes or altitude. Identifying and avoiding triggers can be crucial in managing migraines and reducing their frequency and severity.
