Marma Massage Therapy

Marma Massage -Therapy

An Ayurvedic Massage with deep tissue pressure application

About the Therapies

Marma hold significant importance, as per Ayurveda. According to the ancient system of medicine, there are 107 marmas (vital points) in the human body. These points serve as conduits for the flow of energy, and are crucial for the well-being of the body, mind, and spirit. Injury to a marma can have adverse effects, and even be fatal, if left unaddressed.

Marma massage, rooted in ancient kalari (martial arts of Kerala) traditions, was initially used to treat injuries among warriors. The massage is very effective in  cleansing the body of Dosha and Dushya imbalances.

Ayurvedic Marma massage is a timeless technique aimed at enhancing the body’s biochemistry. Utilizing Ayurvedic herbal oils, this treatment induces relaxation and rejuvenation. Correcting and restoring the flow of energy through the Marma points, improves immunity, promotes healing, and enhances vitality.

Procedure:

Similar to Abhyanga, gentle oil massage is done for the entire body followed by applying gentle pressure on the vital points with circular movements. Our Ayurveda therapists use their thumb, knuckles, palms, and elbows to stimulate the vital points. The technique is similar to a deep tissue massage such as in Chinese acupressure or as in a Shiatsu massage.

Patient info:

Most people mistakenly believe that applying deep pressure on the painful area is required to heal a sprain or an injury. But, massages and application of deep pressure should be avoided while you have an injury. Ayurveda massages are offered very gently in most of the cases, which promotes the innate healing.
